We had an interesting experience with Rio this week that REALLY surprised us.
As you may have read, Rio has a good friend, Whistler. He is our son’s dog and we take Rio over to his house on a regular basis. Both dogs really love playing together and Whistler gets so excited when he sees Rio walking up the front walk to his house that he can hardly contain himself. The two dogs start wrestling the minute we walk through the door, so we have to put them right out into the backyard to save the house from certain destruction!
Well, this week we had to be gone out of town for the day. We dropped Rio off at Whistler’s house for them to watch and we picked him up the next day. The dogs apparently did fine together, no problems. When we picked Rio up we also picked up Whistler and our two granddaughters to spend the night with us because our son and his wife were going out of town to a concert.
We got home with our car full of kids and dogs and brought them all into the house. Jay went straight to the living room chair and sat down and Whistler plopped down right next to him. Jay began petting Whistler and then noticed that Rio had gone right past the two of them and crossed the room where he sat up tall on the floor and stared at them. Jay called Rio over to him but Rio did not budge. He called him several times but Rio just sat there and turned his head away from them. It was obvious that Rio was JEALOUS.
For the next couple of hours Rio laid on his bed pouting. While we ate our lunch he did not lay in the doorway to the kitchen like he usually does. He did not budge off his bed. After about two hours he finally seemed to accept the fact that Whistler was going to be hanging around for a while and he lightened up and joined the party.
It had been very amusing watching him act like a jealous little kid who had been told he had to share. He obviously did not like that idea at all!

i can relate to Rio. i’m in a position where i have to share and i don’t like it. i spend half the day pouting, laying on my pillow.
That is sooo funny & cute. Poor Rio. Poor Mike G. too.
He copped some of the MOST PATHETIC looks I’ve EVER seen. It was really pretty doggone funny.
